You know the drill. It’s <insert holiday here> and we have to slice and dice our time in an attempt to make everyone happy.
But are you really making them happy or checking them off a to-do list?
Other than obeying the law and New Years, “it” doesn’t have to be done a certain way or even today. None of it.
Mother’s Day can be June 1st, Christmas can be celebrated on December 20th, and you are welcome to wear white pants after Labor Day. (especially in Texas)
What’s important is the people. Taking any day out to make those around you feel special, appreciated, and loved. The sentiment and execution is what matters.
Same in business. While it’s helpful to see how others paved the way before you, your way doesn’t have to be their way. Your success may be greater going in a different direction or tweaking the standard.
The people in and around your business are the most important. Lifting them up and satisfying their needs will propel you faster than following the imaginary rules.
That’s what makes everyone happy.
So if your sentence starts with “We have to…” or “I should…”, remember, there is no rule stating “X” has to be done a particular way, or even today.
